Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho said he is โvery happyโ with his squad despite the club missing out on midfielder Rodri. Barcelona later signed the Spanish midfielder after Madridโs pursuit failed.
Los Blancos revamped their squad during the summer by signing six players, including record arrival Yan Diomande, Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella. However, the club did not add another midfielder after failing to secure Rodri.
Mourinho Declares Real Madrid Squad Complete
Mourinho said he considers the squad complete, although he acknowledged that the transfer market remains open. He added that he has not requested another signing and remains satisfied with his current players.
Real Madrid have faced midfield concerns since Luka Modric and Toni Kroos left the club in 2024 and 2025. The team began the new La Liga campaign with a late 2-1 victory over Espanyol.
Tchouameni Ruled Out Against Real Sociedad
Mourinho confirmed that Aurelien Tchouameni would miss Wednesdayโs match against Real Sociedad. The coach said the midfielder needed more time to recover and stressed that players should not begin a season while carrying physical problems.
The Portuguese coach also backed Federico Valverde as a central midfielder. Mourinho said Valverde could play a more fixed or mobile role depending on the opponent and the teamโs objectives.
Mourinho also argued that modern football has reduced the importance of fixed positions. He said players such as Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Valverde and Bernardo Silva can adjust their roles during matches.
