Authorities urge motorists to avoid unnecessary travel and follow safety precautions during heavy rainfall
ISLAMABAD: The Motorway Police have issued a nationwide travel advisory, urging motorists and passengers to exercise extra caution as monsoon rains continue to affect several parts of Pakistan.
A spokesperson advised travellers and tourists to avoid non-essential journeys during periods of heavy rainfall, warning that slippery roads and reduced visibility could significantly increase the risk of traffic accidents on motorways and national highways.
The advisory stressed the importance of responsible driving and encouraged motorists to remain alert throughout their journeys, particularly in areas experiencing persistent rain.
Drivers urged to adopt additional safety measures
The Motorway Police specifically advised motorists in Karachi to reduce their speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and use headlights whenever visibility becomes poor.
In addition, drivers were reminded not to use mobile phones while operating their vehicles and to keep their full attention on the road at all times. Authorities said these precautions could help minimise the likelihood of collisions during adverse weather conditions.
The advisory also warned motorists against attempting to cross flooded roads, streams or rain-fed waterways, citing the danger of strong currents and flash flooding.
Northern travellers asked to monitor weather conditions
Meanwhile, people planning to visit hilly and mountainous regions were urged to postpone unnecessary trips because of the increased risk of landslides triggered by continuous rainfall.
The Motorway Police further advised travellers heading to northern areas to check the latest weather forecasts and road conditions before departing to avoid unexpected road closures or hazardous routes.
Authorities said staying informed and following official travel advisories would help ensure safer journeys during the ongoing monsoon season.
