JSMU oversees province-wide entrance test scheduled for August 16
KARACHI: More than 33,500 students across Sindh will compete for 5,100 seats in public medical and dental colleges when the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) is held on August 16 at examination centres established across the province.
According to Sukkur IBA Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Asif Sheikh, a total of 33,500 candidates have registered for the examination, including 20,934 female students and more than 12,600 male candidates.
Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), which is conducting this year’s admission process, has allocated 5,100 seats for aspiring healthcare professionals. The available positions include 2,300 MBBS seats and 2,800 BDS seats, covering all reserved quota allocations.
Examination centres established across Sindh
Dr Asif Sheikh said Karachi has the largest number of applicants, with 10,661 candidates registered, including 8,186 women and 2,475 men.
Meanwhile, 9,470 candidates will take the test in Hyderabad, 5,462 in Sukkur, 3,066 in Larkana, 2,511 in Shaheed Benazirabad and 2,067 in Mirpurkhas. Additionally, an examination centre has been established in Islamabad to accommodate 300 candidates.
The Karachi test centre will operate at NED University, where organisers have also arranged a nearby banquet hall for parents accompanying candidates.
Results expected by August 22
Authorities have instructed candidates to report to their examination centres by 6:30am, while the three-hour multiple-choice examination will begin at 10am.
The test will carry a total of 180 marks. Candidates must obtain at least 55 percent to qualify for medical college admissions and 50 percent for dental colleges. Officials confirmed there will be no negative marking.
To enhance transparency, the answer key will be uploaded after the examination, and candidates will receive carbon copies of their answer sheets to verify their responses.
According to the organisers, the MDCAT results are expected to be announced by August 22, allowing the admission process for Sindh’s medical and dental colleges to proceed soon afterward.
