Multiple Delays Reported at Jinnah International Amid Heavy Rainfall and Power Outages
KARACHI – Flight operations at Jinnah International Airport were disrupted on Tuesday as heavy monsoon rains lashed various parts of Karachi, leading to widespread power outages and transportation challenges across the city. The Pakistan Aviation Authority (PAA) confirmed that multiple flights were delayed due to poor weather conditions and reduced visibility at the airport.
In a statement issued by PAA spokesperson Saifullah Khan, authorities noted that several inbound and outbound flights faced schedule changes throughout the day as a precaution against the ongoing adverse weather.
Among the affected flights was Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) PK-304, scheduled to depart for Lahore at 2:00 PM, but delayed until 5:00 PM due to poor flying conditions. More delays and possible cancellations were anticipated as the weather system continued to hover over the city.
Precautionary Measures Urged Amid Citywide Rainfall
The heavy downpour, part of a larger monsoon system moving across southern Pakistan, drenched major parts of Karachi including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Shahrah-e-Faisal, North Karachi, Korangi, and Saddar, causing urban flooding in some areas. The rainfall also triggered power outages in several neighborhoods, further complicating airport operations and ground transportation for passengers.
Authorities have advised citizens to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow weather advisories until conditions improve. Airport staff are working to accommodate delayed passengers and ensure safety protocols remain in place during this period of disrupted operations.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast continued rain in Karachi over the next 24 to 48 hours, raising concerns about further flight delays and transportation challenges in the city.
