Pakistan’s monsoon death toll has crossed 100 as heavy rains continue affecting several parts of the country. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast another wet spell beginning from July 29.
Monsoon Rains Claim More Lives Across Pakistan
The National Disaster Management Authority reported 10 more deaths during the past 24 hours. Consequently, the nationwide death toll since June 26 has reached 107.
According to the NDMA, Punjab recorded seven fatalities during the reporting period. Gujrat and Okara reported two deaths each, while Sargodha, Narowal and Sialkot recorded one death each.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported three additional fatalities. Hangu recorded two deaths, while Shangla reported one.
The NDMA said house collapses, electrocutions and drowning caused the latest casualties. Furthermore, authorities reported 47 injuries across Punjab and three more injuries in Hangu.
Overall, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded the highest number of monsoon-related deaths with 55. Punjab follows with 36 fatalities, while Azad Jammu and Kashmir reported seven deaths.
Additionally, Balochistan recorded six deaths, Sindh reported two and Gilgit-Baltistan registered one fatality.
PMD Forecasts Fresh Wet Spell From July 29
Separately, the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast another spell of rain beginning on July 29. The weather system is expected to affect Islamabad, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Met Office also said upper catchments of all major rivers would receive rainfall. However, it expects no flood-generating rainfall before July 28.
Scattered rain and thunderstorms are forecast in several districts across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan. Meanwhile, Karachi is expected to experience cloudy and humid conditions with light rain, drizzle and possible thunderstorms around the city’s outskirts.
