Pakistan’s star wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has kicked off his preparations for Big Bash League (BBL) 15, jumping straight into his first full training session with the Melbourne Renegades just hours after landing in Australia. His immediate start reflects both his commitment and determination to make a strong impact in one of the world’s top T20 leagues.
Rizwan Eyes Strong Impact in Australia’s Challenging Conditions
Rizwan arrived in Melbourne yesterday and wasted no time joining his teammates in the nets. He stressed that performing well in Australia can significantly enhance a player’s global profile, describing BBL 15 as an exciting new test in his career. According to him, Australian pitches challenge both batters and bowlers, pushing cricketers to raise their game.
This will be the fifth domestic T20 league of Rizwan’s career. He is also one of seven Pakistani players participating in this season’s Big Bash, joining big names like Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Rizwan shared that facing familiar teammates in an overseas league would be a unique experience. His first match on 15 December is against Brisbane Heat — the same night Shaheen makes his debut for the Heat — setting up an exciting Pakistan-vs-Pakistan showdown on Australian soil.
Teaming Up with Adam Zampa and Embracing Australian Cricket Culture
Rizwan expressed particular excitement about playing alongside Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who has often challenged Pakistan’s batters in international cricket. He hopes their partnership will help the Melbourne Renegades mount a serious title push this season.
He also highlighted the passion of Australian crowds as a major reason behind his decision to join the BBL, saying the fans’ energy and love for cricket make the league a special place to play.
BBL 15 will run from 14 December to 25 January 2026, featuring 44 early-evening prime-time matches across Australia, promising high-intensity cricket throughout the summer.
