Egyptian star sends message to fans ahead of expected arrival
TRABZON: Egyptian football icon Mohamed Salah has moved a step closer to joining Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor after the club confirmed that official transfer negotiations are underway. The announcement came alongside a video showing Salah aboard a plane wearing Trabzonspor’s claret-and-blue jersey with the number 61, a symbol closely associated with the city of Trabzon.
In the video, the 34-year-old forward greeted supporters with an enthusiastic message, saying, “Trabzon, are you ready? I can hear you. See you very soon. Everywhere is Trabzon for us.” The phrase is one of the club’s most popular slogans and reflects the strong bond between Trabzonspor, the city and its passionate supporters across Türkiye.
Club officials said Salah is expected to meet Trabzonspor President Ertugrul Dogan in Istanbul before travelling to Trabzon later on Wednesday. However, the club has not yet revealed details regarding the proposed contract, including its duration or financial terms.
Liverpool legend begins a new chapter
Salah left Liverpool at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season after an extraordinary nine-year spell at Anfield. During his time with the English club, he scored 257 goals and provided 120 assists in 442 appearances, becoming Liverpool’s third-highest scorer in all competitions and the club’s all-time leading Premier League scorer and assist provider.
The Egyptian international helped Liverpool win eight major trophies, including two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups. Individually, he collected four Premier League Golden Boot awards along with multiple Player of the Year honours.
Trabzonspor targets another historic era
Trabzonspor hopes Salah’s arrival will strengthen its ambitions of challenging for domestic honours once again. The Black Sea club famously became the first team outside Istanbul to win Türkiye’s top-flight title in 1975-76 and most recently lifted the Super Lig trophy during the 2021-22 season.
