Mobile internet data services have been suspended across the Quetta district for 24 hours following heightened security concerns, according to a notification issued late Thursday night. The decision, made on the recommendation of the Balochistan Home Department, took effect at midnight and will remain in place for one full day.
Authorities stated that the temporary suspension is aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring the effectiveness of security measures amid the current situation in the provincial capital. Officials said the decision was taken after intelligence reports suggested the possibility of unrest or security threats in certain parts of the district.
The notification confirmed that the suspension applies to all mobile network operators within Quetta, effectively disrupting mobile data connectivity throughout the city. Voice call services, however, are expected to remain unaffected.
Law enforcement agencies and local authorities are on high alert, with additional personnel deployed at key locations to ensure peace and stability. Officials said such preventive measures, while inconvenient, are sometimes necessary to preempt potential acts of violence or the spread of misinformation that could incite public disorder.
A senior official from the Balochistan Home Department reiterated that the measure is strictly temporary and will be lifted once the security situation normalizes. “Public safety remains our top priority, and this step has been taken to protect citizens and maintain peace in Quetta,” the official said.
Residents expressed frustration over the suspension, citing disruption to business, communication, and online services. However, local authorities urged citizens to cooperate, stressing that the measure is part of broader security precautions aimed at ensuring stability and preventing any untoward incidents during this sensitive period. Services are expected to resume once the 24-hour restriction expires.
