A tragic road accident in Karachi turned violent on Wednesday morning after a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a water tanker, triggering a furious mob to torch the tanker on the spot. The deadly crash occurred near 4K Chowrangi in North Karachi, according to Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police.
Motorcyclist Dies After Severe Injuries
Police said the motorcyclist suffered critical injuries in the collision and was immediately shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The tanker driver escaped from the scene, abandoning his vehicle as enraged locals gathered. Moments later, a mob set the tanker ablaze, expressing anger over the recurring fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles in the area.
Another Fatal Accident in Baldia
In a separate incident on the same morning, a 45-year-old woman was run over by a bus in the Baldia-8 area, according to Saeedabad police. She was rushed to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The bus driver and conductor also managed to flee.
These two accidents add to a growing list of recent tragedies on Karachi’s roads. Just two days earlier, a Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) dumper struck and killed a motorcycle rider at Nagan Chowrangi. Last month, angry citizens torched another dumper after it hit a couple, killing the husband and injuring his wife.
The frequent involvement of heavy vehicles in fatal crashes has intensified public frustration, prompting authorities to face renewed calls for stricter traffic regulation and enforcement.
