MNA Mubarak Zeb
An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated late Tuesday night outside the residence of Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Mubarak Zeb in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district, police confirmed on Wednesday. The explosion caused partial damage to the property but fortunately resulted in no loss of life or injuries.
According to Bajaur District Police Officer (DPO) Waqas Rafique, the IED was strategically planted at the main gate of the MNA’s house. At the time of the blast, Mubarak Zeb was not present at his residence, averting any direct threat to his life.
Law enforcement officials responded promptly to the scene and launched a search operation to apprehend those responsible for the attack. DPO Rafique assured that efforts were underway to track down the perpetrators behind the incident.
In a public statement following the blast, MNA Mubarak Zeb expressed relief that his family members and nearby residents remained unharmed. He stated that such acts of violence would not deter him or his family. Reaffirming his commitment, Zeb declared his intention to carry forward the mission of his late brother, Rehan Zeb, who was martyred in the past.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq also issued a strong condemnation of the attack. He extended his best wishes to Mubarak Zeb and his family and directed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation. Sadiq emphasized the importance of bringing those involved in the act of terror to justice, underscoring the need for heightened security and accountability in the region.
Zeb, who was elected as an independent candidate backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had recently faced internal party scrutiny. He was among those lawmakers who voted in favor of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, going against the party’s stated position, which led to disciplinary measures from PTI leadership.
This attack is the latest in a string of violent incidents in Bajaur district. Just last month, four children sustained injuries after a mortar shell, fired from an unknown location, struck a house in the Lowi Mamund tehsil.
Earlier in April, a roadside bomb targeted a vehicle belonging to the Frontier Corps, injuring eight individuals, including three security personnel and five civilians. These recurring episodes highlight the persistent security challenges faced by the region.
