Friends and Guest House Staff Questioned
Karachi police have detained 18 individuals for questioning in the mysterious death of businessman Mir Raza Ali.
His body was recovered from bushes near Shahi Qila in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The location is situated opposite the University of Karachi.
Police said the body carried a gunshot wound to the chest. It was found two days after Raza went missing from his residence in PECHS Block 2.
Initial reports claimed he had been kidnapped from his home. However, investigators have not yet announced a final conclusion about the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death.
Officials said the detained individuals had remained under surveillance since the early stages of the investigation. Their statements are now being recorded separately.
Six detainees are reportedly associated with a guest house linked to the investigation. Five others are described as close friends of Mir Raza Ali.
Police have also summoned his business partner for questioning.
Investigators said 13 individuals would face formal questioning during the current phase. Detailed statements are expected from five people considered important to the investigation.
No formal arrests have yet been announced.
Digital Currency Losses Become Major Investigation Angle
Police are also examining Mir Raza Ali’s reported financial dealings.
Investigators learned that he had suffered a significant loss in a digital currency business in April. He had reportedly received substantial investments from several individuals before facing the financial setback.
Authorities are questioning people connected to those investments. Police are trying to determine whether any financial dispute was linked to his death.
Investigators have not confirmed that the reported losses were the motive behind the incident. The financial angle remains one of several possibilities being examined.
Raza’s mobile phone has also been sent for technical examination. Police are attempting to unlock the device and recover calls, messages and other digital records.
Officials believe the phone may provide important information about his final movements and recent contacts.
Missing Pistol Creates New Questions
The investigation has also focused on a missing firearm belonging to Mir Raza Ali.
Police said the missing weapon was a .30-bore pistol. The bullet recovered during the investigation was reportedly of the same calibre.
However, no bullet casing was found at the location where the body was discovered.
The pistol also remains missing. Investigators said the absence of both the weapon and casing has made it difficult to reconstruct the shooting.
Police are reviewing surveillance footage, witness statements, financial records and digital evidence. They are also examining whether the body was moved before being left near the bushes.
The investigation remains active. Authorities have not yet identified a suspect or disclosed whether charges will follow the questioning process.
