A 13-year-old girl was allegedly shot dead by her paternal cousin in Mianwali after a dispute over her reportedly leaving home without wearing a hijab.
The tragic incident occurred in Mauza Baitian, within the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station. The girl had reportedly accompanied her father to purchase household items when the suspect confronted her in a crowded bazaar.
According to the initial account, the accused objected to her attire before allegedly opening fire. The girl sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene, leaving witnesses and local residents shocked.
Police Register Murder Case Against Suspect
The victim’s father lodged a complaint with police, leading authorities to register a murder case against the accused. The complaint alleges that the suspect fired seven shots at the girl before fleeing the scene.
Following the shooting, police personnel and rescue workers reached the location and initiated legal proceedings. Authorities subsequently shifted the girl’s body to the District Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, District Police Officer Waqar Azeem Kharal took notice of the incident and directed officers to arrest the suspect immediately. Police also formed special teams to trace the accused and conduct raids at suspected locations.
Investigation Underway To Establish Motive
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the killing and gathering evidence to establish the motive. Although initial reports suggest that the dispute concerned the girl’s decision to leave home without a hijab, authorities have yet to conclusively establish the motive.
Furthermore, the case has renewed concerns about violence against women and girls over clothing choices and personal freedoms. The killing has also highlighted the urgent need to protect minors from coercion, threats and family-related violence.
Police are continuing efforts to apprehend the suspect and bring him before the law. Investigators will use witness statements and other available evidence to determine the circumstances of the incident and support further legal proceedings.
