Service Restarts on Select Routes Amid Ongoing Roadblocks
After a four-day suspension, the Metro Bus Service between Islamabad and Rawalpindi has been partially restored, providing some relief to daily commuters in the twin cities. The suspension was triggered by road closures and security concerns due to a protest organized by a religious group.
According to Metro Bus officials, operations have resumed in Phase 1, covering the route from Saddar Station to Kashmir Highway. However, the stretch from Faiz Ahmad Faiz Station to Pak Secretariat remains non-operational, as containers and barricades still block roads near D-Chowk.
The Metro Bus Authority confirmed that the service had been halted on the instructions of the district administration to ensure commuter safety during the protest. Full restoration of the bus service is expected in Phase 2, once all roadblocks are removed and normal traffic resumes.
Red, Green, and Blue Lines Resume; Red Zone Still Restricted
A spokesperson for the Capital Development Authority (CDA) stated that Red, Green, and Blue Line metro services have also resumed partial operations across Islamabad. Additionally, electric buses are now back on most routes, but buses traveling through the Red Zone and surrounding areas remain suspended due to lingering security restrictions.
The spokesperson further clarified that the electric bus service will be fully restored once all roads are cleared. The temporary suspension came to an end after the protesting group announced the conclusion of their demonstration on Monday, easing the tense situation in several parts of the city.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and urge commuters to stay updated through official channels for route-specific service updates.
