Meta has introduced a free Facebook verification programme for eligible users. The new feature allows individuals to verify their identity without purchasing a subscription.
The company previously launched Meta Verified in February 2023 for Facebook and Instagram. That paid subscription offers a blue verification badge and additional account benefits.
However, the latest programme provides a free alternative for identity verification. Users can receive a verification badge after completing a facial verification process.
The system requires users to upload a selfie for verification. Meta then compares the image with existing profile photos using facial recognition technology.
According to the company, the process takes only a few minutes. Moreover, the programme is available to Facebook users aged 18 years and above.
How The Free Verification Process Works
Eligible users must complete the selfie verification before receiving the badge. Once approved, the verification badge appears beside their profile name.
The badge becomes visible across Facebook’s platforms and services. Additionally, Meta says the verification confirms the account belongs to a real person.
The company explained that facial recognition technology matches submitted selfies with profile photographs. Therefore, users can verify their identity without paying for Meta Verified.
Free Badge Differs From Paid Meta Verified
The free verification badge differs from the paid Meta Verified subscription. While both confirm identity, the paid service includes additional account features and benefits.
Meanwhile, the free badge only verifies the user’s identity. It does not confirm credibility, public status, or authenticity beyond identity verification.
Meta has made the feature available without any subscription fee. Consequently, eligible Facebook users can now obtain identity verification at no cost.
