Internal Affairs
In a statement on Tuesday, the United States clarified its position, affirming that Washington will not interfere in the internal affairs of Pakistan. The US State Department spokesperson, Matthew Miller, emphasized the importance of a transparent investigation into allegations of rigging and fraud in accordance with Pakistani law.
In addition, Miller expressed optimism about the ongoing process of government formation in Pakistan, highlighting the need for a transparent and lawful approach. He stated, “We want to see a transparent investigation of rigging and fraud according to Pakistani law,” and added, “Hopefully, the process of forming a government in Pakistan is underway.”
A few days prior, Miller had conveyed the US’s readiness to collaborate with the new Pakistani government. Moreover, acknowledging the significant participation of Pakistani citizens in the electoral process, he praised the engagement of the youth and women in the elections.
“We commend the way the journalists, polling workers, and observers showed responsibility during the elections,” Miller remarked. He also expressed the US’s willingness to extend partnerships with Pakistan through trade and investment, underlining a commitment to continue aiding efforts aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s democratic institutions.
The US State Department’s consistent message of non-interference and collaboration with the new government reflects a diplomatic approach that respects Pakistan’s sovereignty while expressing a desire for transparency and adherence to democratic processes.
As the political landscape evolves in Pakistan, the US remains poised to engage in mutually beneficial partnerships and to support the democratic foundations of the country.
