LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz made an unexpected visit to the Shalimar Police Station in Lahore shortly after her oath-taking, accompanied by Inspector General Usman Anwar. This hands-on approach to understanding the operations of a critical institution like the police reflects her commitment to directly engage with key aspects of governance.
Earlier on the same day, responding to the pressing issue of inflation and the need for immediate relief for the public, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz issued directives for swift measures. To address the rising prices of essential goods, she ordered the establishment of a dedicated department for price control within the next five days. Additionally, she emphasized the imperative of strict monitoring of demand and supply dynamics across the province to ensure effective control of inflationary pressures.
Maryam Nawaz, in her role as Chief Minister, stressed that relying on temporary measures would be insufficient to tackle the challenge of rising prices. She insisted on the implementation of permanent mechanisms to establish sustained control over inflation, demonstrating a forward-looking approach to economic management.
Having made history earlier in the day as the first female Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz conveyed her commitment to serving the people during her inaugural speech in the assembly. While acknowledging the challenges ahead, she expressed her determination to make the best use of the limited five-year term to work for the welfare of the people.
The surprise visit to a police station and the proactive directives regarding inflation highlight Maryam Nawaz’s hands-on and decisive approach to governance. By prioritizing direct engagement with key issues affecting the province, she aims to set a tone of efficient and responsive administration in her capacity as Chief Minister of Punjab.
