The federal government has appointed Maryam Kiyani as Senior Adviser to Pakistan’s Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund.
The appointment was confirmed through a notification issued by the Establishment Division. Kiyani will serve in Washington, D.C., on deputation for three years.
Maryam Kiyani is a Grade 20 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service. She previously served as Joint Secretary in the Finance Division.
Her appointment follows a selection process involving three shortlisted candidates recommended by the Ministry of Finance.
The Prime Minister’s Office had formed a ministerial committee to finalise Pakistan’s nominee for the senior IMF position.
Kiyani was shortlisted alongside Moazam Raza, who serves as Joint Secretary External Finance, and Nadeem Ahsan, another Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Finance.
Kiyani has extensive experience in public administration, economic management and external finance.
She has also worked on complex sovereign financing matters, giving her experience relevant to Pakistan’s engagement with international financial institutions.
The IMF position is considered important because Pakistan maintains regular engagement with the institution on economic reforms, fiscal policies and financing arrangements.
As Senior Adviser, Kiyani is expected to support Pakistan’s representation and coordination at the IMF headquarters in Washington.
Her appointment comes at a time when Pakistan continues to work closely with the IMF on economic stability and reform measures.
The three-year deputation will place her in a key international financial role and strengthen Pakistan’s official representation at the global lender.
The government has not announced further details regarding her joining date or specific responsibilities beyond the senior advisory position.
