A 37-year-old man died while swimming at the LDA Sports Complex in Lahore, raising concerns about safety measures. The incident occurred two days ago at the swimming pool of the EME Sports Complex. The LDA Sports Complex Directorate manages the facility.
Reports Raise Questions Over Safety Measures
The deceased, identified as Muhammad Aqdas, reportedly drowned while swimming. Reports alleged that the on-duty lifeguard failed to rescue him in time. Consequently, negligence has emerged as a key concern surrounding the incident.
Furthermore, reports claimed inadequate monitoring and management contributed to the fatal accident. They also alleged that officials kept details of the incident from the public for two days.
Directorate Gives Different Account
Meanwhile, the Sports Complex Directorate stated that Muhammad Aqdas suffered a heart attack while swimming. Officials maintained that he did not die from drowning.
Following the incident, Director Sports Complex Khurram Yaqoob reportedly applied for leave. Meanwhile, the Lahore Development Authority is considering removing him from his position. Authorities are expected to further review the incident and existing safety protocols at the facility.
