Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will visit Pakistan from October 20 to 22 for discussions on trade, investment, defence and bilateral cooperation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited Muizzu for the three-day state visit, the Foreign Office announced on Sunday.
Muizzu will travel with First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level delegation that includes cabinet ministers and senior officials. During his visit, he will meet President Asif Ali Zardari, who will host a state banquet in his honour.
Leaders to Discuss Bilateral Cooperation
Furthermore, Muizzu will hold meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at both restricted and delegation levels. The leaders will review relations between the two countries and explore opportunities to expand cooperation across several important sectors.
These discussions will cover trade, investment, health, education, tourism, agriculture, defence, maritime security and climate change. Both sides will also exchange views on regional and international developments that concern their countries.
The Foreign Office said the visit would provide an opportunity to strengthen existing ties and develop new areas of cooperation. Officials from both countries are expected to pursue practical initiatives that support their shared interests.
Business Forum to Explore Investment Opportunities
Additionally, Pakistan and the Maldives will hold a bilateral business forum to bring together representatives from their business communities. The forum aims to identify new opportunities for trade, investment and commercial partnerships.
Several agreements and memorandums of understanding are also expected during the visit. These arrangements could establish a framework for further cooperation across multiple sectors.
The visit carries added diplomatic significance because it marks the first visit by a Maldivian president to Pakistan in 11 years. It also coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, established in 1966.
Both countries maintain longstanding relations and cooperate through regional and international forums. The upcoming meetings aim to strengthen their partnership and create further opportunities for mutually beneficial engagement.
