Pahang Princess Ties the Knot With British GT Racing Star
Malaysian royal Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Ilyana Alia has married British racing driver Christopher Lionel Froggatt in a royal wedding in Kuala Lumpur that brought together Malaysian traditions and international motorsport.
Princess Ilyana, 29, and Froggatt, 32, were officially married on Friday, August 7, 2026, with wedding celebrations continuing over the weekend at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
The bride is the daughter of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, the Sultan of Pahang and Malaysia’s former king, and former Malaysian actress Julia Rais.
Sultan Abdullah attended the marriage solemnisation ceremony as members of the Pahang royal family gathered to celebrate the union.
The wedding drew international attention because it united a member of one of Malaysia’s royal households with a British professional racing driver competing at a high level of European motorsport.

Princess Ilyana’s bridal fashion was one of the most prominent features of the celebrations.
She wore designs by celebrated Malaysian couturier Radzuan Radziwill, incorporating traditional royal elegance into her wedding looks.
The princess also wore important jewellery from the collection of Queen Azizah of Pahang.
Vogue Singapore reported that Princess Ilyana wore two diamond tiaras loaned by Queen Azizah across her wedding celebrations, alongside other significant royal jewels.
For the solemnisation, she wore an Art Deco-style diamond tiara together with diamond jewellery, while her bridal gown featured delicate lace embroidery and an elegant silhouette.
The combination of royal heirlooms and Malaysian couture gave the ceremony a distinctly Pahang royal character while attracting attention from international royal watchers.
Who Is Princess Ilyana’s Husband Chris Froggatt?
Christopher Froggatt is a British racing driver currently competing in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.
Official championship records list him as a British driver racing a Ferrari 296 GT3 for Ziggo Sport Tempesta Racing during the 2026 season.
Froggatt entered professional car racing relatively late compared with many drivers.
His official Tempesta Racing biography says his fascination with speed began with an early interest in cars, quad bikes and motocross.
He did not begin racing cars competitively until his mid-20s.
A high-performance driving experience at Ferrari’s Fiorano test track in Italy became an important turning point and helped push him towards professional motorsport.
Froggatt later progressed into GT3 competition and has built an extensive racing career in Ferrari machinery and other GT cars.
His Tempesta Racing operation has also competed successfully in major European GT championships.
He competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2025, driving a Ferrari 296 GT3 alongside Eddie Cheever III and Jonathan Hui.
Froggatt and his teammates had previously secured major success in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, including Pro-Am championship honours.
Pahang Royal Family Attends Wedding Celebrations
The wedding brought together senior members of the Pahang royal household as well as political and international guests.
Among those reported in attendance was Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, the Crown Prince of Pahang, alongside other members of the royal family.
Pahang Chief Minister Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail was also among the guests.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates was additionally reported to have attended the celebrations.
The celebrations included the marriage solemnisation followed by a Majlis Persandingan Diraja, or royal wedding reception, at the Shangri-La Hotel on August 8.
The events combined Islamic marriage traditions, Pahang royal customs and formal celebrations attended by members of the royal household.
Princess Ilyana’s Father Served as Malaysia’s King
Princess Ilyana belongs to the royal family of Pahang, one of Malaysia’s hereditary royal states.
Her father, Sultan Abdullah, has served as Sultan of Pahang and was elected Malaysia’s 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, or king.
He served as Malaysia’s federal monarch from 2019 until 2024.
Malaysia operates an unusual constitutional monarchy in which the federal kingship rotates among rulers of nine royal states.
The Conference of Rulers elects the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, normally for a five-year term, rather than the throne automatically passing from parent to child at the federal level.
Sultan Abdullah completed his five-year term as king in January 2024 while continuing his position as ruler of Pahang.
Princess Ilyana’s marriage to Froggatt therefore connects one of Malaysia’s most prominent royal families with the international motorsport world.
The couple had maintained a relatively private relationship before the marriage, with limited public information about their romance before the royal wedding was announced.
