Formula One has confirmed that Malaysia’s Sepang Circuit will host the rescheduled Bahrain Grand Prix in October. Meanwhile, the race was postponed earlier this year because of regional security concerns in the Middle East.
Sepang To Stage Bahrain Grand Prix In October
Formula One announced that the race will take place on October 4 at Sepang Circuit. Additionally, the event will carry the official title “Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.”
Formula One Chief Executive Stefano Domenicali announced the decision during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. He said Malaysia and Bahrain had reached an agreement alongside Formula One and the FIA.
Domenicali described the decision as excellent news for Formula One fans worldwide. Furthermore, he said Sepang holds a special place in the sport’s history.
He added that the circuit would provide spectacular racing and an unforgettable experience for spectators. Consequently, the Formula One calendar will continue featuring a full championship schedule.
The Bahrain Grand Prix was originally postponed in April amid the United States-Israel war involving Iran. The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah was also cancelled because of regional security concerns.
Formula One Calendar Returns To 23 Races
The addition of Sepang restores the 2026 Formula One season to 23 races. However, uncertainty remains over the final rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Reports suggest Italy’s Imola Circuit could replace those events if necessary. Nevertheless, Formula One has not confirmed any further calendar changes.
The rescheduled Bahrain race will take place between the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on September 26 and the Singapore Grand Prix on October 11.
Previously, Formula One has held races carrying another country’s name at different venues. Finally, the event remains subject to final agreements and approval from the FIA World Motor Sport Council.
