Saudi Arabia issued emergency alerts across Makkah, Jeddah and Taif on Tuesday amid growing security concerns linked to attacks by Yemen’s Houthi group.
The National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies sent the warnings to residents and visitors. Saudi Civil Defense urged people to remain calm and follow official safety instructions.
Authorities warned of a “potential danger” but did not immediately explain its exact nature. Officials later lifted the alerts after confirming that the danger had passed in Makkah.
Authorities Issue Safety Instructions
Civil Defense advised residents to move to the nearest safe location after receiving an alert.
Officials recommended staying inside buildings or choosing interior rooms away from windows. They also warned people against remaining in open areas.
Residents were told to avoid balconies and rooftops during the alerts. Those outside were advised to enter the nearest building or take shelter behind a solid barrier.
Motorists also received specific instructions. Drivers were told to pull over away from bridges and high-rise buildings if an alert reached them.
Authorities stressed the importance of following official instructions throughout the emergency.
Houthi Attacks Injure 13 Civilians
The emergency warnings followed Houthi missile and drone attacks on several Saudi cities.
The attacks targeted areas including Taif, Khamis Mushait and Abha. Saudi authorities said the strikes injured 13 civilians.
The attacks also damaged seven homes and two vehicles, according to Saudi officials.
The latest alerts came amid a sharp escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthi movement in Yemen.
First Recent Alert for Makkah
The warning marked the first such emergency alert for Makkah since the latest escalation involving the Houthis, according to Saudi Civil Defense.
Authorities later confirmed that the immediate danger had passed in Makkah. However, officials urged residents and visitors to remain alert.
The developments highlight the growing security concerns surrounding Saudi Arabia as Houthi attacks continue to threaten several parts of the country.
