Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia will remain committed to their joint defence agreement for at least 10 years after it enters into force, according to the pact’s text reported by Reuters.
The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, signed by the three countries on August 7, 2026, establishes a framework for collective security and military cooperation. Under its provisions, an armed attack against one member will be treated as an attack against all three.
Article 2 requires the signatories to provide immediate assistance to a member facing external military aggression. The countries will determine the nature and scale of assistance after assessing the situation and the support required.
The agreement also prohibits any signatory from withdrawing during its first 10 years of operation. After this period, a country seeking to leave must provide at least three months’ written notice to the other members through diplomatic channels.
Furthermore, the pact will remain in force indefinitely unless a member withdraws under the agreed provisions. Obligations concerning classified information and previously approved projects will continue even after withdrawal.
The agreement also promotes cooperation in defence production, intelligence sharing, logistics, counterterrorism, military training and advanced technology.
Türkiye has submitted the agreement to its parliament for ratification. The parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee could begin examining the document later this week.
Turkish officials have described the partnership as defensive and aimed at strengthening regional stability. Ankara has indicated that its contribution could include military equipment, intelligence and weapons systems.
However, deploying Turkish troops abroad would require separate parliamentary authorisation under Türkiye’s constitution.
The agreement marks a significant step in formalising defence cooperation among the three countries amid continuing regional security concerns.
