Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have agreed to move immediately toward implementing their collective defence commitments under the Makkah Alliance.
The decision was reached during an emergency meeting of the Strategic-Political and Defence Committee in Riyadh on October 5.
The meeting focused on recent security developments and threats facing Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the three countries agreed on practical steps to strengthen their joint defence arrangements.
These measures include providing agreed military forces and capabilities for deployment in Saudi Arabia.
Makkah Alliance Moves Toward Practical Defence Cooperation
The three countries agreed to begin the practical implementation of their collective defence commitments without delay.
They will also take necessary measures to provide the military forces and capabilities covered by the agreement.
Furthermore, the countries agreed to ensure their rapid deployment in Saudi Arabia under approved arrangements.
Any deployment will take place according to the national laws of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
The measures are intended to improve military readiness and integration among the three alliance members.
They will also strengthen the alliance’s collective ability to respond to security threats.
Nauman Mahmood Named First Secretary-General
The emergency meeting also advanced the institutional development of the Makkah Alliance.
The committee appointed retired Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood of Pakistan as the alliance’s first secretary-general.
He will serve a three-year term in the position.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye welcomed his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to advance the alliance’s objectives.
His appointment also represents another step toward building the institutional structure of the defence arrangement.
Three Countries Condemn Attacks on Saudi Arabia
During the meeting, the three countries strongly condemned attempted attacks targeting Makkah and Madinah.
They also condemned continuing attacks against cities and civilian and economic facilities across Saudi Arabia.
The participants reaffirmed their firm opposition to any attack or threat against Saudi Arabia’s security and territorial integrity.
Pakistan and Türkiye also praised the readiness and vigilance of the Saudi Armed Forces.
They recognised the Saudi military’s role in protecting the Kingdom’s security and territorial integrity.
Alliance Reviews Earlier Political and Military Consultations
The committee also reviewed the outcomes of political and military consultations held before the emergency meeting.
It subsequently approved the recommendations presented during those consultations.
The committee described the Makkah Alliance as a firm commitment to collective defence and a unified response to threats.
Therefore, the latest decision moves the agreement beyond political commitments toward practical military cooperation.
The participating countries said the implementation would strengthen deterrence and demonstrate their collective resolve.
What the New Measures Mean for the Makkah Alliance
The latest steps are aimed at making the collective defence arrangement more operational.
The three countries said the security of each member forms an important part of their collective security.
They also said practical implementation would demonstrate the credibility of their defence commitments.
At the same time, the agreement seeks to strengthen cooperation while respecting the national laws of all three countries.
The latest development therefore gives the Makkah Alliance a more concrete military framework.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have now moved toward implementing the commitments made under their joint defence agreement.
The immediate focus remains on readiness, military coordination and the deployment of agreed capabilities when required.
