Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi chaired the fifth meeting of the Board of Governors of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NECTA) in Islamabad, during which significant decisions were made to enhance Pakistan’s internal security and counter-terrorism framework.
The session was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and several senior government officials. NECTA’s National Coordinator, Dr. Khalid Chauhan, presented a comprehensive briefing on the authority’s current performance and its strategic roadmap.
A key decision from the meeting was the formal approval of the National Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Center (NIFTAC). Designed in close consultation with security stakeholders, NIFTAC will function as a centralized hub for intelligence sharing and threat analysis.
Interior Minister Naqvi described the formation of NIFTAC as a pivotal move in realizing NECTA’s long-term strategic goals. He also announced the establishment of similar centers—referred to as Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centers (PIFTACs)—across all provincial capitals to strengthen regional intelligence and coordination.
These new initiatives aim to ensure more effective implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) and provide a comprehensive response to evolving security threats.
Minister Talal Chaudhry highlighted that NIFTAC would significantly enhance NECTA’s operational capabilities, making it a more dynamic institution in the fight against terrorism.
The meeting also included Senators Manzoor Ahmed and Ponjo Mal Bheel, the Interior Secretary, the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, provincial Home Secretaries, and Inspector Generals of Police from all regions, including Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
All recommendations put forth by Dr. Chauhan were unanimously endorsed by the Board of Governors.
These newly adopted measures are expected to substantially reinforce Pakistan’s internal security infrastructure and elevate its counter-terrorism efforts nationwide.
