Oil and Gas Reserves
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak district has emerged as a new hub for energy resources following the significant discovery of oil and gas reserves by Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL).
The company announced the find through an official communication to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, highlighting the potential impact this discovery could have on the country’s energy sector and overall economy.
The reserves were identified in the Tal Block, a site that has undergone extensive exploration efforts. According to the information shared by POL, the well at the Tal Block is expected to produce around 22 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
In addition to the substantial gas output, the well is also estimated to yield approximately 2,112 barrels of oil daily. This dual production capability marks a considerable boost in local hydrocarbon resources, which could contribute significantly to meeting Pakistan’s growing energy demands.
Drilling operations at the Tal Block commenced in December 2024. The reserves were found at a considerable depth of 3,887 meters, showcasing the advanced technical capabilities involved in the exploration. The drilling process involved sophisticated technology to ensure accurate extraction potential assessment and reservoir evaluation.
Pakistan Oilfields Limited further revealed that the well is expected to be connected to the production line within the next two months. This swift transition from discovery to production is anticipated to expedite the availability of these resources, offering economic benefits not only for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but for the entire country.
The discovery in Karak district underscores the strategic importance of the region in Pakistan’s energy landscape.
With the country facing energy shortages and increasing demand, such finds are critical to enhancing domestic production and reducing dependence on imported fuels.
This significant discovery by POL adds to Pakistan’s portfolio of energy reserves and could attract further investment and exploration activities in the region. It also aligns with national efforts to bolster energy security and foster economic development through the optimal utilization of indigenous resources.
Overall, the successful drilling and expected production from the Tal Block well mark an encouraging development for Pakistan’s oil and gas industry, promising to play a vital role in supporting the country’s energy needs in the near future.
