ISLAMABAD: The federal government has appointed Major General Faisal Naseer as National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) for a three-year term, according to an official notification issued on Friday.
The Establishment Division announced the appointment after the government approved it under Section 9(1) of the NACTA Act, 2013.
According to the notification, Major General Naseer will serve on a three-year secondment under standard terms and conditions. His appointment takes effect immediately and will remain valid for the stipulated period or until further orders from the government.
Appointment Takes Effect Immediately
The notification formally places Naseer at the helm of NACTA, the federal body responsible for coordinating national efforts and policies aimed at countering terrorism and violent extremism.
Moreover, the National Coordinator plays a central role in facilitating cooperation among federal and provincial institutions involved in counterterrorism efforts.
Naseer is also a recipient of the Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Tamgha-i-Basalat, two Pakistani state honours recognising distinguished service and bravery.
Government Circulates Appointment Notification
Meanwhile, the Establishment Division circulated copies of the appointment notification to key federal and provincial offices following its issuance.
Recipients included the Prime Minister’s Office, President’s Secretariat, Cabinet Division, Interior Division and provincial chief secretaries. Other relevant government authorities also received copies for necessary administrative action.
The appointment comes as NACTA continues its role in coordinating Pakistan’s counterterrorism framework across different levels of government.
Under the NACTA Act, the authority serves as a central platform for developing counterterrorism strategies, coordinating among relevant agencies and assisting policymakers in addressing security challenges.
Naseer will now assume responsibility for leading that coordination during his three-year tenure.
