ISLAMABAD: Actor Madiha Imam has shared a frightening experience from her first trip to Turkey, revealing she nearly faced legal trouble after unknowingly using counterfeit currency.
Speaking on actor Faysal Quraishi’s podcast, Imam described the incident as one of the most alarming moments of her visit. Moreover, she urged travellers to exchange foreign currency only through authorised services.
Imam said she exchanged money soon after arriving in Turkey. However, she later discovered that someone had given her counterfeit banknotes during the transaction.
She recalled ordering a fruit platter and paying with one of the notes. Shortly afterward, the vendor confronted her in Turkish and called a security guard because the banknote was fake.
Initially, Imam did not understand the situation because she believed the money was genuine. The vendor then tore the note and warned that using counterfeit currency could lead to arrest.
The actor said she was shocked because she had unknowingly become the victim of a scam. Consequently, she feared the misunderstanding might escalate into a serious legal issue.
Fortunately, a Turkish driver assisting her during the trip intervened at the right time. He offered to pay the vendor, helping resolve the matter before it became more complicated.
Imam expressed gratitude for the stranger’s kindness and support during the stressful situation. Furthermore, she advised travellers to use only authorised exchange services to avoid similar problems abroad.
Her account has since gained widespread attention on social media. Many users sympathised with her experience and praised the Turkish man’s generosity.
Imam is widely recognised for her performances in the television dramas Muqaddar and Ishq Jalebi. She most recently appeared alongside Quraishi in Behroopia.
