American rapper Macklemore has announced that he will donate $1 million in net earnings from his tour with Ed Sheeran to six Palestinian organisations. The announcement came on Thursday as the artist renewed his support for Palestinians amid the ongoing crisis.
Macklemore shared the news through an Instagram post, stating that he wanted to refocus attention on the Palestinian people. He said they continue to face violence, military occupation, and a struggle for freedom.
Tour Controversy Sparks Wider Industry Reaction
The announcement followed Macklemore’s removal from Ed Sheeran’s Loop tour earlier this week. Reports said the decision came after the rapper delivered a speech advocating for a free Palestine.
Following his removal, all other supporting acts on the tour reportedly withdrew in solidarity with Macklemore. Consequently, the controversy generated significant discussion across the entertainment industry.
Macklemore also invited billionaire businessman Robert Kraft to match his donation. He stated that regardless of political differences, protecting Palestinian lives should remain a shared humanitarian concern.
Rapper Calls for Humanitarian and Political Change
In his statement, Macklemore emphasized that his advocacy has always focused on the rights of Palestinians to freedom, dignity, and safety. He highlighted the hardships faced by families, healthcare workers, journalists, and aid personnel operating in difficult conditions.
The rapper acknowledged that financial assistance alone cannot fully address the crisis. Therefore, he argued that meaningful political change is necessary to improve conditions and secure basic rights for Palestinians.
Macklemore said donating his earnings was one of the simplest ways he could contribute to humanitarian efforts. He also praised activists and organizers who have faced personal costs while supporting the Palestinian cause.
According to his post, the donation will support the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund, Heal Palestine, Gaza Soup Kitchen, Medical Aid Palestine, UNRWA, and American Near East Refugee Aid.
