LPG prices in Pakistan have reached record levels, creating serious financial pressure on households. Supply disruptions and border closures have pushed market rates far above official prices.
According to LPG distributors, consumers now face sharply higher costs, particularly in mountainous regions.
LPG Prices Reach Rs600 Per Kilogram
Irfan Khokhar, chairman of the LPG Distributors Association, reported alarming price increases across several regions.
In mountainous areas, LPG now costs Rs600 per kilogram. Meanwhile, consumers in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa pay around Rs500 per kilogram.
A domestic LPG cylinder costs Rs7,200 in mountainous regions. The same cylinder sells for Rs6,000 in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
These increases have placed additional pressure on families who depend on LPG for cooking and heating.
Official LPG Rates Remain Much Lower
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) set the official October LPG price at Rs279 per kilogram.
Meanwhile, the approved domestic cylinder price stands at Rs3,350.
However, market prices remain significantly higher than these official rates.
Khokhar accused the regulator of failing to control overcharging and protect consumers.
He also warned that prices could increase further if supply problems continue.
Distributors Demand Immediate Government Action
The LPG Distributors Association urged the government to address supply shortages without delay.
Khokhar called for immediate LPG imports through the Sui Southern Gas Company terminal.
He argued that improved supplies could help stabilize prices and reduce pressure on consumers.
The latest price surge has raised concerns ahead of winter, when households often need more fuel.
Distributors are now seeking urgent government intervention to restore affordable LPG supplies.
