A girl who went missing from Islamabad 17 years ago has been reunited with her family, sources reported on Monday. Twenty-seven-year-old Kiran was located at the Edhi Centre in Karachi and handed over to her biological father after nearly two decades of separation.
The reunion was facilitated through the efforts of Safe City Punjab, highlighting the role of coordinated law enforcement and social welfare initiatives in locating missing persons.
Kiran shared details of her long journey, explaining that she had gone out to get ice cream and got lost in the streets. She was eventually left at the Edhi Centre in Islamabad, where the late Bilquis Edhi later transferred her to the Karachi facility.
At the Edhi Centre, Kiran received both religious and contemporary education, shaping her upbringing over the years. Reflecting on the reunion, she expressed immense happiness at seeing her parents after so long, noting that her time at the Edhi Centre would remain a cherished part of her memories.
Shabana Faisal of the Edhi Foundation remarked that Kiran is the fifth girl from Karachi to be successfully reunited with her parents through the foundation’s intervention. The organization has long played a pivotal role in rescuing and rehabilitating missing children, providing them with education, care, and emotional support while working to restore family connections.
Kiran’s father, Abdul Majeed, whose family hails from Kasur, expressed overwhelming joy at being reunited with his daughter. He said that the family had lost hope of ever finding her, making the sudden news of her location and safe return all the more emotional.
The reunion marks a significant milestone for both the family and the social welfare agencies involved, offering hope and encouragement for other families awaiting news of missing loved ones. Kiran’s story underscores the importance of persistent efforts, compassion, and institutional support in reuniting long-lost children with their families.
The successful reunion not only brings closure to a family after 17 years of uncertainty but also highlights the continued impact of organizations like the Edhi Foundation in safeguarding vulnerable children and restoring family bonds across Pakistan.
