List of Nominees
ISLAMABAD: With just over two weeks remaining until the general elections, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released the list of nominees on Sunday. The delay in publishing the list was attributed to litigation, causing it to extend beyond the initially scheduled date of January 12, which was the last day for the withdrawal of candidature and the publication of the revised candidate roster.
Among the prominent electoral battles, PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif and PTIโs former provincial health minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid are set to face off in NA-130, Lahore, on February 8. Meanwhile, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif is running in both NA-123 (Lahore) and NA-132 (Kasur), encountering tough competition from PTI and Jamaat-i-Islami candidates. Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz, also from the PML-N, are contesting from Lahore in various constituencies.
PPP’s Asif Ali Zardari will compete in NA-207 (Shaheed Benazirabad), while his son, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, is running in three NA constituencies. Former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani is vying for NA-148 (Multan), facing opponents from PTI and PML-N. Additionally, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, PTI leaders Khawaja Saad Rafiq and Gohar Ali Khan, among others, are set to engage in fiercely contested elections across the country.
In Karachi, Dr. Farooq Sattar and Mustafa Kamal are key contenders in NA-241 and NA-242, respectively. Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Ghulam Sarwar will renew their rivalry in NA-54.
As the electoral landscape takes shape, anticipation builds for the high-stakes elections on February 8, with key political figures and parties preparing for intense competition across various constituencies.
