Notices Issued to Senior Police Officials
The Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court has issued notices to senior police officials in the Chakwal shooting case. The incident claimed the life of a 9-year-old Pakistani-Australian girl.
Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan heard the case on Thursday. The petition was filed in the public interest by Advocate Mian Asif Mahmood.
After removing procedural objections, the court admitted the petition for hearing. Notices were issued to the Inspector General of Punjab Police, the Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi, and the District Police Officer Chakwal.
Petition Alleges Indiscriminate Firing
According to the petition, CCD personnel opened indiscriminate fire during the incident. The firing allegedly caused the death of the minor girl.
The petition also claimed that a Pakistani-Australian family was deliberately targeted in the Chakwal shooting.
It argued that the killing of a child due to CCD firing is a serious violation of fundamental rights.
Judicial Inquiry Requested
The petitioner said the tragedy is not only a matter for one family. It is also linked to the protection of citizensโ constitutional rights.
The petition requested immediate protection for the affected family. It also called for a judicial inquiry into the incident.
The petitioner further sought the formation of an independent judicial commission for a transparent investigation.
During the hearing, the Lahore High Court directed all respondents to submit their replies by the next day.
