The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed authorities to arrange a meeting between Noreen Niazi and her daughters. The court issued the instructions while hearing petitions challenging the continued detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sisters.
Justice Abher Gul Khan heard the petitions filed by Noreen’s daughter, Sakeena, and Shahrez Khan, son of Aleema Khan. The petitions challenged the extended detention orders against Noreen, Aleema and Uzma Khan.
Court Examines Detention Extensions
During the hearing, petitioners’ counsel Rana Mudassar Umar argued that authorities had unlawfully extended the women’s initial 30-day detention period. He maintained that the Lahore deputy commissioner issued fresh detention notifications after the original period expired.
Furthermore, the lawyer claimed that authorities had prevented the detained women from meeting their family members and legal representatives. He asked the court to declare the extended detention notifications illegal.
The Punjab government had previously informed the court that authorities extended the detention orders for another 30 days. However, the petitioners challenged the legality of these decisions.
Noreen Niazi Receives Medical Treatment
Meanwhile, the court examined concerns surrounding Noreen’s deteriorating health and access to medical facilities. Jail doctors recommended transferring her to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) for treatment.
She later returned to jail following medical care. Additionally, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah informed the Senate that Noreen was doing well after receiving treatment.
Justice Abher Gul Khan directed the Punjab Home Department to submit reports regarding the detention extensions. The court will examine the reports before deciding the petitions.
