LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has granted one-week protective bail to Noreen Niazi, sister of the PTI founder, in a case registered by the NCCIA.
The court directed authorities not to arrest Niazi during the protective bail period. It also ordered her to appear before the relevant trial court within one week.
Niazi’s counsel told the court that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency registered a case against her under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act.
The petition stated that Niazi wanted to approach the competent court for regular bail. However, she feared arrest before obtaining legal protection.
Therefore, her counsel requested protective bail to allow her to appear before the relevant court without facing immediate arrest.
Case Registered Under PECA
According to the FIR, the NCCIA registered the case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and Pakistan Penal Code.
The FIR alleges that Niazi made false allegations against state institutions during a podcast interview. It further claims that she attempted to create panic through what investigators described as baseless accusations against the armed forces.
Moreover, the case alleges that she shared provocative and threatening content on social media.
Investigators have also accused her of engaging in activities they considered harmful to public order and state institutions.
However, the court’s protective bail order only provides temporary relief from arrest. Niazi must now appear before the relevant trial court within the stipulated period to seek further legal relief.
