LAHORE: The process for appointing another woman judge to the Supreme Court has reportedly been completed, with Lahore High Court Chief Justice Aalia Neelum expected to be elevated to the apex court next month, according to informed sources.
Sources said Justice Aalia Neelum is likely to be appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court following the retirement of Justice Musarrat Hilali, who is scheduled to retire on August 8.
Her elevation is expected to fill the vacancy created by Justice Musarrat Hilali’s retirement, ensuring continued representation of the Lahore High Court on the Supreme Court bench.
Justice Aalia Neelum’s anticipated appointment is also expected to trigger the process for selecting a new Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court.
According to sources, three senior judges are being considered for the position: Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Shahbaz Ali Rizvi.
