Misrepresenting Events
The Islamabad High Court has issued notices to former Army Chief General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa and former top spy Lieutenant General (retired) Faiz Hameed for allegedly violating rules by giving interviews after retirement and misrepresenting events in them.
A private citizen named Atif Ali filed a complaint that led to the issuance of notices. The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority and the Press Association of Pakistan, along with journalists Shahid Maitla and Javed Chaudhry, to whom the interviews has given, have also received notices.

In a written order issued on Monday, Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq stated that the petitioner had repeatedly requested the Federal Investigation Agency to file a complaint but received no response.
Furthermore, the petition alleges that the interviews, conducted by Chaudhry and Maitla, had a ‘negative impact’ on society and were conducted under the guise of freedom of expression for a ‘criminal act.’
The petition further alleges that collusion between the journalists and the generals misrepresented events in the interviews, portraying a negative image of the institution, and attempting to create a rift between it and the people of Pakistan.
The petition attached copies of the articles and sought a court order for the FIA to file a case and take action against all parties involved.
