AI-Powered Restaurant
The culinary industry has recently witnessed the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) with the inauguration of the world’s first AI-powered restaurant, CaliExpress, located in Pasadena, Southern California.
Launched in late December, this fully autonomous eatery has quickly gained attention as a revolutionary establishment in burger preparation, marked by the deployment of cutting-edge technology.
Cali Group, the visionary force behind this unique venture, collaborated with Miso Robotics, renowned for introducing the world’s inaugural AI-powered fry station, Flippy. The partnership also extended to PopID, a tech company specializing in biometrics for ordering, resulting in a comprehensive technological integration that even the Terminator might find impressive.
At CaliExpress, innovation takes center stage as all fry and grill stations are fully automated, making it the world’s first operational restaurant where both ordering and every cooking process are entirely handled by AI. Guests can witness the robotic culinary expertise in action, creating a captivating “pseudo-museum experience.”
John Miller, CEO of PopID and board member of Miso Robotics, highlighted the significance of this technological feat, stating, “To our knowledge, this is the world’s first operating restaurant where both ordering and every single cooking process are fully automated.” He emphasized that the achievement is the result of years of research, development, and investment in a consortium of groundbreaking companies.
The restaurant’s interior boasts moving robot arms sourced from “retired” Flippys, along with experimental 3D-printed “artifacts” and displayed pictures. Rich Hull, CEO of Miso Robotics, emphasizes that AI-powered robotic order-taking and cooking bring substantial improvements to major restaurant chains in terms of quality, consistency, and speed, ensuring that the dining experience at CaliExpress is anything but mundane.
