WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging platform owned by Meta, is launching new features designed to enhance video playback in its latest iOS update.
According to WABetaInfo, the update—version 24.20.78—introduces several significant enhancements, including adjustable video playback speeds and the highly anticipated picture-in-picture (PiP) mode.
With the new playback speed controls, users can choose to watch videos at normal speed, 1.5x, or 2.0x, making it easier to consume content quickly. The speed adjustment option is conveniently located next to the video progress bar, allowing for easy customization of viewing preferences.
Additionally, the update features PiP mode, which lets users resize the video window and move it around the screen while multitasking. With PiP, users can browse chats, send messages, or use other apps without interrupting their video playback.
Essential controls like skipping forward, rewinding, and pausing the video are also accessible within the floating PiP window.
These new features are compatible with devices running iOS 14 and later, as the required Application Programming Interface (API) has been available to developers since the release of iOS 14. While some users may already have access to these features, others can expect a gradual rollout over the coming weeks.
For those who haven’t yet received the updates, it’s recommended to keep WhatsApp updated through the App Store or the TestFlight app to access the latest enhancements.
