Super Typhoon Yagi Hits Northern Vietnam

Super Typhoon Yagi has struck the northern provinces of Hai Phong and Quang Ninh in Vietnam, delivering devastating winds that exceeded 149 kilometers per hour (92 miles per hour).

The powerful storm, which made landfall on Saturday, has caused extensive damage, including the uprooting of thousands of trees and the destruction of numerous ships.

Before reaching Vietnam, Typhoon Yagi had already caused severe disruption in southern China’s Hainan island, where it resulted in at least two fatalities and injured 92 people.

The storm forced the evacuation of around 460,000 residents from Hainan, a popular tourist destination, and led to the temporary closure of the island’s main airport due to the intense weather conditions.

Earlier in the week, while still classified as a tropical storm, Yagi claimed the lives of at least 13 people in the Philippines.

After crossing through southern China, the typhoon is now moving towards northern and north-central Vietnam, including the UNESCO-listed Halong Bay area, raising further concerns.

Authorities in the affected regions are on high alert as the storm continues to pose a significant threat.

The severe weather conditions are expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds, exacerbating the already challenging situation and prompting ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact on local communities.
