A harsh cold wave has swept across Pakistan, with rain and snowfall sending temperatures plummeting and forcing residents to brave icy conditions.
The extreme weather has frozen lakes and waterfalls, while dense fog has led to road closures in multiple areas, disrupting daily life. In Balochistan, regions such as Qila Saifullah, Muslim Bagh, and Kan Mehtarzai are experiencing temperatures as low as -7 degrees Celsius, prompting locals to remain indoors to stay warm.
In Karachi, temperatures have dropped to 12 degrees Celsius, intensifying the chill in the country’s southern metropolis. Meanwhile, in Ghizar, the famous Khalti Lake has frozen completely, transforming the 150-foot-deep lake into an impromptu playground for children, who are seen playing football on its icy surface.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast cold and dry weather for most parts of the country, with mountainous regions facing especially severe cold. Plains in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh are expected to experience dense fog during the morning and night, further reducing visibility and disrupting transportation.
The motorway police have reported visibility dropping to as low as 30 meters in some areas, leading to the closure of the M-1 Motorway from Peshawar to the Ghazi Barotha Interchange. Authorities have urged travelers to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary journeys in affected regions.
The current spell of cold weather is expected to persist, with residents across the country advised to take precautions against the freezing temperatures and limited visibility caused by dense fog.
