Residents of Karachi, grappling with intense heat, received promising news as the Meteorological Department announced the imminent arrival of the city’s first monsoon rain, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching temperatures prevailing in recent weeks.
The anticipated showers are expected to alleviate the severe heatwave conditions that have been adversely affecting the city. The Met Department indicated that monsoon winds are poised to enter Karachi from both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea starting from June 26th.
A low-pressure system currently situated in Gujarat, India, is forecasted to shift towards Pakistan, carrying the potential for significant rainfall.
A spokesperson from the department stated, “Citizens can anticipate light to moderate rain on June 29th,” underscoring the expected relief from the persistent heatwave, which has exacerbated discomfort and health concerns across Karachi.
Earlier reports highlighted Karachi’s ongoing struggle with a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring and humidity levels intensifying the discomfort for residents.
As of the latest update, the maximum temperature had already reached 33 degrees Celsius, with humidity peaking at 73%, making the perceived temperature feel even hotter at 39 degrees Celsius.
Looking ahead, the Met Department anticipates a return of sea breezes in Karachi by Wednesday evening, with temperatures expected to gradually decrease from the following day. This shift in weather patterns promises a welcome change for Karachiites, providing respite from the oppressive heatwave conditions that have persisted in the city.
