Lahore Braces for Potential Rain After Intense Heatwave

Lahore continues to grapple with an intense heatwave, with temperatures expected to soar to 44 degrees Celsius on Monday. This extreme heat has led to a surge in heatstroke cases and sparked civil protests over persistent electricity load shedding.

In the past 24 hours, hospitals across Lahore have reported 43 heatstroke cases. Mayo Hospital admitted eight patients, General Hospital treated 25, and Ganga Ram Hospital saw ten cases. Medical professionals are urging residents to stay indoors, stay hydrated, and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun during peak heat hours.

Compounding the city’s struggles, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) is dealing with a significant supply-demand gap, resulting in five to six hours of load shedding daily. This has led to civil protests as residents express their frustration over prolonged power outages amid the sweltering heat.

Despite the ongoing heatwave and power issues, there is a glimmer of hope. The Meteorological Department has forecast a chance of rain later this week, which could bring much-needed relief to Lahore’s beleaguered residents.

Meanwhile, Karachi residents can expect some respite as the Met Department forecasts a decrease in heat intensity this week. Currently, the city enjoys partly cloudy weather, with sea breezes providing much-needed relief. Winds from the southwest, blowing at a speed of 22 kilometers per hour, are helping to moderate the temperature. However, the maximum temperature is still expected to reach up to 36 degrees Celsius.

The Met Department has indicated that Karachi will remain hot and humid over the next 24 hours. However, the restoration of sea breezes is expected to gradually ease the intense heat that has gripped the city in recent days.

These weather updates highlight the ongoing challenges faced by residents in Lahore and Karachi due to extreme temperatures and the critical role of weather patterns in providing relief.
