Karachi has been experiencing intermittent rain since Sunday, bringing a mix of refreshing weather and several challenges for residents.
The Met Department forecasts more rain today, with intermittent showers expected to continue through tomorrow.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz reported that the heaviest rainfall thus far has been 76mm in Nazimabad. He also noted that the city should brace for its fifth monsoon spell, which is anticipated to begin on August 13.
The ongoing rain has led to significant road damage and water accumulation throughout Karachi. Major roads in Malir Kala Board, Liaquatabad, the Airport area, Model Colony, Stadium Road, and Nazimabad are currently experiencing severe waterlogging, causing substantial traffic disruptions.
A notably large pothole has developed near Esa Nagri, prompting the police to close the road to prevent accidents. Road conditions have deteriorated since yesterday, leading to increased inconvenience for commuters.
Authorities are advising residents to exercise caution and avoid non-essential travel, particularly in the most affected areas. The Chief Meteorologist indicated that conditions should improve as the weather system progresses.
Additionally, the National Disaster Management Authority issued a warning on Sunday about the risk of urban flooding due to the heavy rains expected over the next two days. Their advisory highlighted the potential for significant rainfall across the Karachi division until August 6.
The NDMA stressed that the heavy rains could lead to urban flooding in various city areas and urged all relevant institutions to take necessary precautions. Municipal authorities, emergency services, and other concerned organizations have been instructed to stay vigilant and prepared for any potential flooding incidents.
