Karachi Braces for Heavy Rain Spells from August 4 to 7

Heavy Rain

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast predicting one or two spells of heavy rain in Karachi from August 4 to 7.

This new weather update follows recent drizzling and light to moderate rain experienced in various areas of the port city over Thursday and Friday.

The PMD has highlighted that the monsoon system’s effects are expected to become more pronounced starting from Friday.

The forecast suggests that Karachi could experience light to torrential rain showers during this period.

According to the weather department, the rainfall in many parts of the city is anticipated to range between 40mm to 60mm, with some areas potentially receiving up to 100mm of rainfall during the upcoming spell.

The weather office has also indicated that rain showers are likely to continue through Saturday. Previously, the PMD had forecasted moderate to torrential rains in Karachi from August 3 to 5.

In recent days, heavy rain showers have already impacted various parts of Karachi, including Saddar, II Chundrigar Road, Baldia Town, Defence, and North Karachi. These rains have caused significant inundation in low-lying areas of the city.

The Met Office has also warned that strong monsoon winds originating from Rajasthan and the Arabian Sea are likely to influence Sindh starting Friday.

This could lead to rain showers with lightning in different areas of the province. There is a possibility that Sindh’s low-lying areas could face flooding due to the heavy rains.

Additionally, regions such as Kirthar and the rivers and nullahs in the mountainous areas of Balochistan are at risk of flooding if the heavy rains persist.

Furthermore, the forecast suggests that areas like Daddu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, and Jamshoro could also experience flash floods as a result of the heavy rainfall.

The Met Office has advised residents to remain cautious and prepared for potential disruptions caused by these severe weather conditions.
