Heatwave to Persist Until Early June, Temperatures May Exceed 50°C: Meteorological Department

A Meteorological Department official has indicated that the current hot weather will persist until the first week of June. Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz mentioned that maximum temperatures could exceed 50 degrees Celsius between May 23 and 28. He also stated that pre-monsoon rainfall is expected to commence in early June.

The heatwave, characterized by soaring temperatures, continues to affect most regions of the country. Earlier, the Met Office reported that high atmospheric pressure is contributing to the development of heatwave conditions, particularly in Sindh and Punjab. Severe heatwave conditions are anticipated from May 23 to 27.

From May 21 to 23, daytime temperatures in Sindh and Punjab are expected to be 4 to 6°C above normal, increasing to 6 to 8°C above normal from May 23 to 27. Similar temperature anomalies are predicted for Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Balochistan from May 21 to 27.

The general public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight. The extreme heat and dry conditions pose a risk of triggering bush fires and forest fires in susceptible areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Northeast Balochistan.
