Islamabad witnessed the official launch of the ‘Wakeel Online’ app, a digital platform designed to enhance access to legal aid, particularly for those unable to afford legal fees.
Speaking at the event, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar emphasized the initiative’s goal of providing legal assistance to Pakistanis in need. He highlighted that legal procedures have become more accessible, reflecting efforts that began in 2020 to simplify the system and make justice more attainable.
German Ambassador Alfred Grannas, also present at the launch, acknowledged the strong public interest in the app, noting its potential to bridge gaps in legal support. He expressed confidence that the platform, which has transitioned from a conceptual project to a fully functional service, will prove highly beneficial in the long run.
The app has already gained significant recognition, with around 700,000 people in Pakistan aware of its services. More than 1,000 lawyers have registered on the platform, with many others currently undergoing the screening process before joining.
According to officials, Wakeel Online aims to provide seamless access to legal assistance for individuals facing difficulties navigating the judicial system. The platform is expected to reduce barriers that often prevent people from seeking legal counsel, thereby making the justice system more inclusive.
The initiative represents a major step toward integrating technology with legal services, ensuring that legal aid reaches those who need it most. As the app continues to evolve, it is likely to play a crucial role in streamlining legal consultations and support for the public.
