Violence in Gaza City claims lives of at least 50 in Israeli attacks

Israeli forces escalated attacks across northern Gaza despite ongoing ceasefire discussions.

Within a 24-hour period, at least 50 people were killed and many more injured in strikes throughout the besieged enclave, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. The violence intensified in districts like Shujayea, Sabra, and Tal al-Hawa, marked by intense fighting reported by residents.

Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad engaged Israeli soldiers in Tal al-Hawa using rockets and mortar fire, resulting in casualties. Throughout Gaza City, residents endured explosions, gunfire, and helicopter strikes, particularly in southwestern neighborhoods.

The Israeli army focused operations on Gaza City, citing intelligence of militant activities there. In response, Gaza City residents were advised to relocate to Deir el-Balah, already overcrowded with displaced Palestinians.

Civilians faced dire circumstances as casualties mounted, with reports of women and children among the dead. Medical facilities like the Indonesian Hospital struggled with an influx of patients and limited supplies amid ongoing attacks.

Despite international outcry, including from the UN, Israeli operations continued, targeting areas like Jaffa and Shujayea. Meanwhile, ceasefire discussions between Hamas and Israeli officials faced setbacks as violence escalated, complicating efforts by mediators like Egypt and Qatar.

The conflict, which began following Hamas attacks in October, has claimed thousands of lives and left tens of thousands wounded. International observers condemned the civilian toll and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities to prevent further humanitarian catastrophe.
