The wife of Vietnam’s ambassador to Pakistan, Nguyen Tien Phong, has clarified the circumstances surrounding her brief disappearance that mobilized Islamabad’s police force.
She explained, “I just went out to buy something, went to the spa, and got my hair cut. I forgot my phone, so my husband couldn’t reach me, and that’s why he called the police. Nothing happened.”
The interview, aired on Rubaroo on Monday, shed light on the incident, which occurred on Saturday when she was reported missing for four hours. SSP Investigation Hassan Jahangir Watto informed Independent Urdu that the ambassador’s wife had left home after a disagreement with her husband.
When Piracha inquired if she had truly been missing and if there had been a misunderstanding with her husband, she confirmed both points. The ambassador echoed her sentiments, expressing his concern during her absence. “The safety and life of my wife are my first priority,” he stated, emphasizing that the incident was significant not only for him but also for Pakistan, the Foreign Office, and the police. “The most important thing was to bring my wife back,” he added.
He expressed gratitude to the Foreign Office and the police for their swift action, which he believed strengthened Pakistan-Vietnam relations. Upon her return, the ambassador’s wife noted her happiness and acknowledged the concern shown by many people after her news broke.
Overall, the situation underscored the importance of communication and the responsive cooperation between the Pakistani authorities and the Vietnamese embassy, highlighting a positive diplomatic engagement.
