Pakistan and Afghanistan should work together to resolve border issues
ISLAMABAD: Once again, the United States (US) government has stated its urging of Pakistan to conduct timely elections that adhere to Pakistani laws and are characterized as free and fair.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller emphasized that the US is urging the Pakistani government to uphold human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Miller said, “As we do with countries around the world, we urge Pakistan to hold free, fair, and timely elections, and to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms and the rule of law.”
He also emphasized the importance of conducting elections in accordance with Pakistan’s laws
“And we urge Pakistani authorities to move forward with the electoral process in a manner consistent with Pakistan’s laws, as we do with countries around the world,” he said.
When questioned about the inability to receive a response from the US embassy regarding human-to-human connections between the US and Pakistan, Miller stated that Pakistan holds significant value as a partner for the US.
“Pakistan is an important partner of ours. And we greatly value the relationship between our countries, both between our two governments and the people-to-people connections,” said Miller.
In response to a question about border issues at Torkham, Miller expressed that the US would promote collaboration between the governments of Afghanistan and Pakistan to address the matter.
Previously, the spokesman had clarified that the US maintains a neutral stance on elections in the country and does not endorse any political party.
